Thorp (WQOW) – The city of Thorp has enacted an outdoor watering ban. As of 8:30 Friday morning, the city is banning outdoor watering of lawns and gardens between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Exceptions include watering with a sprinkler can, a hand held hose, or children's water toys.
The city's public works director says Thorp's aquifers haven't replenished, leaving the well levels lower than normal. The city has received about 3 inches less than normal of rain this month.
The city says it's unsure when the ban will be lifted, but the public works director says if we continue to have the hot dry weather that we've seen in July, the ban will most likely remain in place throughout the month of August.
