Eau Claire (WQOW)- A local business is noticing a trend all because of the extreme summer heat.
Long hair may look nice, but the recent high temperatures are making some wonder if it's worth it.
"Less is better in the case of this heat wave," said Chance Orth, Starr's Sister.
Starr's Sister Salon in Eau Claire says as the thermometer climbs, more people are trading in their longer locks for a much shorter style.
"There's been a noticeable increase in what we call dramatic cuts, cuts going from shoulder length or longer to chin length or shorter," said Orth.
"Longer hair presents styling problems, no hair responds well to severe heat and humidity," added Orth.
Denise Fagerlin is hoping cutting off a few inches will make styling and staying cool a bit easier.
"It gets hot and I usually wear it up in the summer anyway, but it's just nice when it is down to have it look a little bit styled and put together," said Denise Fagerlin.
And as more people switch to shorter hair-styles the salon says they've also noticed an increase in donations to charities like 'locks of love'.
