MADISON (WKOW) -- The American Red Cross says its national blood supply is at its lowest level in 15 years.
The shortage is so bad hospitals may soon cancel some of their elective surgeries and possibly postpone more serious procedures like liver transplants because of the amount of blood they require.
Although blood donations always drop during the summer, doctors say severe weather along with extreme heat has stopped many donors from giving. The Red Cross reached emergency levels June 25, with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June.
If you would like to donate, visit The American Red Cross for more details.
