DOT issues new travel guide to Wisconsin's rustic roads - WQOW TV: Eau Claire, WI NEWS18 News, Weather, and Sports

Madison (Press Release) – A new and updated publication is drawing attention to the state's lightly-traveled country roads.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is releasing the fifth edition of Wisconsin Rustic Roads.

"The travel guide has always been extremely popular among state residents and tourists alike," said Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb.  "The booklet includes the location of the state's current 111 Rustic Roads, along with a description of each route."

Wisconsin's first Rustic Road was officially designated in 1975.  Today, the statewide system spans roughly 640 miles through 60 counties.  Unique brown and yellow signs mark the routes, which provide bikers, hikers, and motorists an opportunity for leisurely travel.

"These Rustic Roads showcase the state's natural beauty, landscape and history," added Department of Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett.  "All travelers need is this guide to get off the beaten path and discover some of the state's best hidden gems that they might not have found otherwise."
