Lake Hallie (Press Release) - On July 27, 2012 Lake Hallie Police received reports that overnight two garages and at least three vehicles had been entered and had items stolen.

The areas affected were 86th and 87th Streets and 26th Avenue. This area is the most western side of Lake Hallie just north of the City of Eau Claire and the Municipal Airport.

On July 27, 2012 at 1:42am, Officer Daniel Sokup of the Lake Hallie Police Department was dispatched along with Officer Timothy Bowman for a report of a garage entry in the 2500 block of 87th St.  The caller reported that male suspects fled in a vehicle eastbound on 26th Ave.  A citizen who was the victim of a theft from July 25, 2012 observed 3 male subjects and chased the subjects before they fled in the vehicle. Officer Sokup proceeded to the area and located an unoccupied Saturn Station Wagon parked in the 8800 block of 26th Ave.

Officer Bowman searched the area on foot and observed a male subject leaving from the yard of a residence carrying a flashlight. It was later determined the subject had no connection to the property. A second subject was also located by Officer Bowman after a brief foot chase.  Upon being detained, it was determined that he had no connection to the area.

A 19-year-old was taken into custody and questioned. The other subject, a 15-year-old male was taken to secure detention. One of the subjects indicated that they were "car shopping" which officers believed indicated that they were stealing items from vehicles.

Officers impounded the vehicle and obtained a Search Warrant. The execution of the Warrant resulted in locating marijuana and a smoking device, latex gloves, screwdriver, box cutters and two loose stereo items. This case is still under investigation and charges are pending. Additional information will not be released at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
