EAU CLAIRE (Press Release) - The Boys &
Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley will lease space from the Chippewa
Falls Museum of Industry and Technology (CFMIT), 21 East Grand Avenue in
Chippewa Falls, to open the Chippewa Falls branch of the Boys & Girls Club
of the Greater Chippewa Valley.
A
steering committee comprised of business and community leaders from Chippewa
Falls have been working over the past year to find the ideal location within
the community to open the Chippewa Falls site. More than 15 locations were considered before the steering committee
made the recommendation of the CFMIT to the Boys & Girls Club Corporate
Board for approval.
"The
CFMIT is excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Club. This will be a win, win partnership for both
organizations. Our
board has been working closely with the steering committee and are truly
looking forward to the Boys and Girls Club opening here," said Pam Cernocky, President of the CFMIT Board of
Directors.
"We
are thrilled to see the Chippewa Falls Center becoming a reality. We are grateful for all of the community
members in Chippewa Falls working to make this a reality. The CFMIT will be a great centralized
location in Chippewa Falls for a Boys & Girls Club," said Sara Antonson,
Boys & Girls Club Executive Director.
Founded in 1906, Boys & Girls Clubs of
America offers structured programming, activities and meals for youth ages 8 to
18. The five core programs are: Character & Leadership, Health & Life Skills,
The Arts, Sports, Fitness & Recreation and Education & Career. The organization's mission is to provide a
safe and positive place for families at a low cost. Today, 4,000 Boys and Girls Clubs serve 5
million kids across the country.
Locally, the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater
Chippewa Valley started in 2004 and oversees the Mary Markquart Center in Eau
Claire, as well as the Jackson County Center in Black River Falls. The Chippewa Falls Center will be the third
organization under the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley.
The goal is to open the Chippewa
Falls Center during the December holiday school break at the end of this
year. The steering committee will now
begin their fundraising campaign to secure funds and support for the
organization.
