Marshfield (WAOW) - The Marshfield Clinic is set to see millions of dollars in renovations, but there are some questions about timing. That comes after the clinic announced more than 100 job cuts.
More than 2,000 patients walk through the Marshfield Clinic doors every day... and to make sure they're taken care of, the clinic's President and CEO Dr. Brian Ewert says it's time for renovations to locations in Marshfield and Wausau. "It's just part of keeping our facilities up to date and appropriate for the care of patients," Ewert said.
The renovations include new carpeting, wall coverings and concrete work. Some offices will also be relocated. Marshfield Clinic leaders say it will take more than a year and cost more than $30 million. "The goal is to maintain our operations as they are," Ewert said.
Earlier this month, Marshfield Clinic announced more than 100 layoffs. "There is an emotional loss when any position is reduced," said Ewert. Dr. Ewert says those cuts were simply because not enough patients were coming in. He says these building changes will benefit their current patients. "This is a different aspect of our business and part of our commitment to the community to be here for another 96 years," Ewert said.
