Drunk driving charge in Eau Claire crash Tuesday

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Police say the man responsible for Tuesday night's crash on Eau Claire's south side had an alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Mark Poppe was charged Wednesday with two counts of causing injury by drunk driving.

Witnesses told police his truck rear-ended a small car that was stopped at Highway 37 and Hendrickson Drive. The impact pushed the trunk of the car into the backseat.  The driver and her 12-year-old passenger were injured.

Investigating officers say Poppe's speech was slurred and he had a hard time keeping his balance.

They also say he admitted the crash was his fault and said he had consumed about a six pack of beer, which he said was enough to get him drunk.

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Emergency crews are needed and an alleged drunken driver is taken away in hand-cuffs. A 12-year-old boy was among four people taken to the hospital after a 3 vehicle collision Tuesday night in Eau Claire.

The crash happened at the intersection of Hendrickson Drive and West Hamilton Avenue around 6:00 o'clock.  Eau Claire police say the driver of a pick-up truck rear ended a car. That car then slammed into a van, causing a chain reaction.

The driver of the pick up was arrested for OWI. Police say four people were injured in the crash including a 12-year-old. It's not clear at this time how serious those injuries are.
