RECALL: Kenmore dehumidifiers due to fire and burn hazards

WASHINGTON (WKOW ) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Administration has announced a recall involving 795,000 Kenmore dehumidifiers due to fire and burn hazards.

The consumer agency says the dehumidifiers can overheat, smoke, melt and catch on fire, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. The firm has received 107 reports of incidents, with more than $7 million in property damage and three reports of smoke inhalation injuries.

The recall involves 35-, 50-, and 70-pint Kenmore dehumidifiers sold at Sears and Kmart stores nationwide and and from 2003 to 2009.

If you have one of the recalled items, the Consumer Product Safety Administration says you should immediately turn it off and unplug them. You can contact the firm to receive a gift card that can be used at any Sears or Kmart store or online. The gift card amount will depend on the capacity and the year of the dehumidifier.
