Eau Claire (WQOW) - An elderly man, charged with homicide by negligent driving, is forced to turn over his driver's license.

Archie Van Wormer made his initial appearance in court today.  Van wormer, who is 90-years old, is accused of veering off Claremont Avenue and hitting and killing a bicyclist in June.  Today, he was released on a $25,000 signature bond, and forced to surrender his driver's license.  The judge also ordered him to be placed temporarily in an assisted living home and for his caretaker to remove all car keys from the house.  Van Wormer will be back in court next Thursday, at that time a judge could determine if van wormer is competent to proceed.

At the time of the crash, Van Wormer's license required him to wear prescription glasses while driving, which witnesses say he was not wearing.
