Lake Hallie (Press Release) - On Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 1:54 p.m., Officer Adam Meyers of the Village of Lake Hallie Police responded to the intersection of State Highway 124 and 40th Avenue to investigate a car versus bicyclist traffic crash with injuries.
The investigation has been concluded and no charges will be filed against the driver of the car. The investigation determined that the bicyclist was in error. Damage to the vehicle included the windshield.
Jill A. Becker, 49, of Osseo was operating the car that struck the bicyclist. She was operating her vehicle north on State Highway 124 towards Chippewa Falls when she observed the bicyclist enter the roadway from 40th Avenue. Becker stated she attempted to avoid striking the bicyclist by "Slamming on her brakes."
Witnesses confirm that the traffic standard for north bound traffic on State Highway 124 was green while the car was approaching and entered the intersection. Neither the driver nor the passenger in the car was injured.
The bicyclist, a 14-year-old male from Lake Hallie stated he was riding his bicycle to his friend's residence. He attempted to travel across State Highway 124 from 40th Avenue and was struck by Becker's vehicle. The bicyclist indicated that he "didn't see the car." The male juvenile was traveling alone and did not sustain any broken bones from the crash. He was transported to the Hospital and treated. He was released the same day.
This was the second bicycle versus vehicle accident in Lake Hallie this year that resulted in an injury. On June 11, 2012 at 11:58 a.m. Troy O. Bushman, 22, struck a car while crossing 30th Ave at CTH-00 in Lake Hallie while operating his bicycle. Mr. Bushman was on the bicycle trail and failed to see the oncoming car driven by Carolyn K Berg, 63, of Blair. Mr. Bushman's view was somewhat obstructed by two vehicles stopped at the stop sign on CTH-00. Bicycle traffic on the bike trail is required to stop for vehicle traffic on the road and is controlled by a stop sign.
