Polk County (Press Release from the Polk County Sheriff's Department) - On August 3, 2012 at 12:36A.M the Polk County Sheriff's Office was notified of a two vehicle crash on County Highway N at the intersection with CTH Z in Laketown Township. Initial reports indicated that one driver was pinned and the second driver was possibly deceased. Deputies investigating the crash found the following information.
Laura M. Fairchild (46) of rural St. Croix Falls WI was traveling westbound on CTH N, driving a1997 Mercury Mountaineer SUV when she collided with a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven byJonathan M Hawkins (33) of rural Luck WI when the Hawkins vehicle entered onto CTH N from as top sign at the intersection with CTH Z into the path of the Fairchild vehicle. After the impact,both vehicles came to rest in a field southwest of the intersection.
Fairchild was extricated from her vehicle by Cushing Fire Department after which she was transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Hawkins was extricated from his vehicle and found to have no signs of life. Hawkins was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Polk County Medical Examiners Office.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash which remains under investigation by the PolkCounty Sheriff and Medical Examiners Offices.
