Eau Claire (WQOW) - People from all across Wisconsin came to Eau Claire today for a state tournament.
Today marked the 20th annual Special Olympics state outdoor sports tournament. Close to 1,000 athletes were on hand playing a variety of different sports including softball and golf. Bocce ball alone had almost 100 teams competing.
"The state outdoor sports tournament draws athletes all the way from Milwaukee up to Rice Lake, so this is definitely a state-wide competition. These athletes have qualified at the local and regional level, and they've made it up to state. So this is a big deal for these athletes," said Wisconsin Special Olympics Director of Communication Christina Harris.
A lot of work went into the event; Along with the athletes, there were 300 coaches and 120 volunteers.
