Eau Claire (WQOW) -- Three errors lead to four Mallards runs in the 6th inning, as Eau Claire falls 8-1 Saturday night.
Starter Matt Trowbridge gave up just three hits in five innings, but one of those hits was a three-run home run by Madison's Mitch Elliot. Trowbridge struggled with control, allowing six walks and seven runs on his watch. He would earn the loss.
"I think we out-hit them pretty much throughout the whole game, we just got to throw more strikes," says manager Dale Varsho. "Matt Trowbridge is good, he's just got to throw more strikes and be more competitive and do what pitchers do and get ahead."
Eau Claire turned four inning-ending double plays in the game but struggled to make the simple plays, notching four errors in the game including three in the 6th inning. Offensively, the Express picked up just six hits against the Mallards' pitchers.
The Express will open up a series with La Crosse Sunday at Carson Park. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.
