Hudson gas station robbed at gunpoint; suspect arrested

Hudson (Press Release from the Hudson Police Department) - On August 5, 2012 at approximately 5:24 am, Hudson Police Officers and St. Croix County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to an armed robbery that had occurred at the Freedom Value Center located at 1917 Coulee Road, Hudson, WI. Officers were informed that a White Male, approximately 5'6", in his mid 20's, had entered the Freedom Value Center and demanded money. The suspect did display a black handgun to the lone store employee. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was described as wearing a white "motorcycle" type leather jacket and had a blue bandana across his face.

While responding to this location, Hudson Police Officers spotted a subject matching his description. He was riding a motorcycle at a very high rate of speed and was heading into Minnesota on Interstate 94. When officers attempted to stop this motorcycle, the subject fled. Officers pursued this subject until he abandoned his motorcycle near MN Hwy 5 and Hwy 36 in Stillwater, MN. At this scene officers recovered a Freedom Value Center bag containing money. They also recovered a BB gun, believed to have been used in the robbery. It was also learned that the motorcycle the suspect was operating was stolen out of Inver Grove Heights, MN, on July 31, 2012.

The suspect that was taken into custody is 28 year old Jason Steven Kearns of Bay City, WI. He is being held on suspicion of armed robbery, knowingly fleeing a police officer, and on warrants out of Wisconsin. The investigation is still on-going and more information will be made available at a later time.

The Hudson Police Department was assisted by St. Croix County and Washington County Sheriff's Deputies.
