Police departments celebrate National Night Out

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Police converge on one area tonight and they hope you join them.

This is National Night Out Against Crime.  Police departments throughout the country will be out promoting crime prevention and building community support.  The Eau Claire Police Department says the event gives officers the chance to meet residents and to get feedback from the community.

"On our end it's great to get out and shake their hands and say 'thanks for supporting us thanks for being a part of our community, and to ask questions to them as well," says Community Relations Officer, Kyle Roder, "What can we do to help you out how can we work in a partnership? So that's on of the great things we get out of this."

Tonight's event is already underway at Owen Park.  It runs until seven PM and includes free food, music, games and tours of police vehicles.
