Eau Claire (WQOW) - An Eau Claire man who was suspected in a large theft gives police a couple of interesting reasons for his actions.
Police were questioning James Smith about the theft last month of a large trailer belonging to a roofing company. It was parked on Madison Street.
The trailer was loaded with expensive tools and was valued at more than $10,000. Police say Smith told them he heard neighbors on Madison Street complaining about the quality of work being done by the roofers so he decided to take the trailer to "teach them a lesson."
Police say Smith also said he had consumed a lot of beer before making that decision. The trailer and contents have been recovered. Smith was charged Wednesday with felony theft.
