Eau Claire (WQOW)- A large grant given to a local non-profit will help feed children who may not have enough to eat on weekends.
The Walmart Foundation has awarded Feed My People a $50,000 grant to expand its weekend kids meal program. The program provides well balanced meals for children when school meals are not available. Last year the non-profit sent nutritious, easy to prepare meals home with over 900 children in Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties.
The money from the Walmart Foundation will allow the food bank to expand its program and feed nearly 600 more children.
"There's a lot of need for food assistance and we've seen an increase across the board, with the kids meal program too. And so we're thrilled to be able to have this funding and to really expand our program and really help more kids in need," said Michelle Dingwall, Feed My People Food Bank.
Feed my people says it costs $65 a year to provide weekend meals for one child.
