DETROIT (WKOW) -- General Motors is recalling nearly 9,400 full-size vans in the U.S. because the fuel filler pipes can rust, leak and cause fires.
Chevrolet Express and GMC Savanna vans from the 2003 and 2004 model years with left-side cargo doors are included in this recall. The recalled vans were sold in 20 states where salt and chemicals are used to clear snow from roads, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa.
GM says salt and chemicals can get trapped in a conduit that covers the fuel filler pipe and cause corrosion. Gasoline may leak and cause a fire. The company says it doesn't know of any fires or injuries from the problem.
Federal safety officials say GM will notify owners who are involved in the recall. Dealers will then install a new fuel filler neck for free. At this point, GM has not set a notification schedule. But, owners who would like more information
