Navigating UW - Eau Claire campus to get easier

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Students may want to do some homework before heading back to class at UW – Eau Claire.

Major utility work for the new education building has caused the entire campus mall to be closed, making the area a little tricky to navigate.  A series of temporary sidewalks will be put in place to allow access to buildings on lower campus.

"It will not necessarily be the most direct route because the education building construction zone will still go a long ways into the campus mall," says Assistant Chancellor Mike Rindo. "There will be detours and people will have to take a little extra time to get from here to there but they will be able to for the most part."

Also under construction is a footbridge over the Little Niagara Creek. Work will extend into the school year, blocking the main entrance to Phillips Science Hall.

"They won't be able to get the third footbridge over Little Niagara in place by that point in time," says Rindo. "We do expect that to happen by early October sometime. That will probably be the biggest ongoing disruption to campus is that you will have to use another entrance other than the main entrance into Phillips Science Hall."

As for parking on lower campus, there are no longer any metered parking spots on the academic side of campus. All those spots will be moved to the parking lot currently under construction next to the Haas Fine Arts Center.
