Barron County (WQOW) - Wisconsin has had its share of recall elections in the past year, but the one in Barron County on Tuesday was unlike the rest.
Jim Crotteau, a Town of Sumner supervisor was the focus of a recall. He received 135 votes, Ed Werts had 131 and there were four votes for Al Bartsch. However, because this was a recall primary, Crotteau needed 50% of the vote + one to avoid a recall general election. In other words, he needed 136 votes, one more than he received. That means Crotteau and Werts will be on the ballot once again for a general election on September 11th.
Crotteau was recalled because of his stance on frac sand mining. He voted against a mining moratorium and then petitioners say he later participated in a groundbreaking for a new sand mine. They claim he promoted the interest of the mining company instead of honoring his obligation to residents by defending a moratorium.
