New data shows small job growth in Wisconsin

Posted:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- New quarterly numbers released to The Associated Press by Gov. Scott Walker's administration show the state added 37,464 private sector jobs between March 2011 and March 2012.

When factoring in the loss of government jobs during those 12 months, total job growth was just 1.1 percent.

As was done in May, Walker's Department of Workforce Development released the numbers before they have been vetted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The latest numbers released Thursday cover the first three months of 2012. The BLS is scheduled to publish them on Sept. 27.

Until those numbers are released by BLS, it is impossible to compare Wisconsin's 1.1 percent job growth over the 12-month period with any other state.

Walker says he would like to see stronger growth.
