UWEC football looking for strong start to season

Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The UW-Eau Claire football team plays its first game in two weeks, and the Blugolds hope to come out with some momentum.

The team is just under a week into its fall camp. With 32 letter winners returning for Eau Claire, the coaches say that the extra experience is helping early in camp. The Blugolds think that will help them have a strong start to the season.

"Focus is the biggest thing right now," says senior quarterback Austin Neu. "We just have to know our assignments and our technique. If we get that down, hopefully we come out strong against St. Thomas."

Coach Todd Glaser agrees, saying: "I think it's very important to have the right mindset. What we want and what we want to accomplish with different plays or different fronts and coverages. Or plays on offense or special teams. And to set that foundation is so critical throughout the season."

UW-Eau Claire opens up the season against St. Thomas on September 1st. Kickoff is set for 3:10 p.m. at Carson Park.
