Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - There's new information Monday on the investigation into the major fire that destroyed a downtown Chippewa Falls building.
The fire broke out earlier this month on Spring Street. Now, police say they are looking into several areas of concern. They say while an electrical malfunction has not been ruled out as the cause of the blaze, there was no electricity in the area where it appears the fire started.
Another area of concern: the fire spread much faster than an electrical fire typically would.
Police say it appears the fire started in, or near, apartment number four. The occupant of that apartment was being evicted. She told detectives she was at another residence several blocks away when the fire happened.
Police have already collected some pieces of the floor from that apartment and sent them to the state crime lab for analysis.
Insurance company investigators are expected to be in town late this week or next week to start taking apart the building piece-by-piece and examine every piece to try to determine what caused the fire.
