Quarterback battle developing for Blue Devils - WQOW TV: Eau Claire, WI NEWS18 News, Weather, and Sports

Menomonie (WQOW) -- For the first time in three years, the UW-Stout football team is unsure who will be under center for its first game.

Ross Carey had held the starting job for three seasons but Carey graduated this past spring. Senior Mike Blizel along with sophomores Hank Kujak and Doug Delebreau are battling to replace Carey under center. They will have to learn quickly, as the trio has only thrown 18 passes in their combined careers.

"We're very excited about our quarterback position right now. We have a lot of guys who can compete for that spot, where in the past we always had one guy that rose to the top right away," says UW-Stout head coach Clayt Birmingham. "But now we have a lot of guys on the same playing field and we'll see who comes out on top."

The Blue Devils open up the season at home against Jamestown College on September 8th.
