Chippewa Falls (Press Release) - Gordy's County Market has purchased Kirkwood's Market in Chetek. The store will begin operating under the Gordy's Market name beginning October 2, 2012. The company plans to retain all of Kirkwood's current employees.
In a recent statement, Jeff Schafer, president of Gordy's County Market said, "We are excited about the new opportunity in the City of Chetek and the surrounding communities of Barron County. We will be offering residents our homemade smoked meats and bottom line pricing. In addition, we will continue to offer the products and services that our customers have come to expect from us."
Gordy's bought the store from Tom and Jane Kurschner.
"We are proud to turn Kirkwood's Market over to another family run business that uses the same values that we used to run our own business for 35 years," said Tom and Jane. "We have been blessed by the excellent customers and wonderful employees of Barron County."
Gordy's County Market is a family-owned grocery store that started in 1966 when Gordy Schafer opened his first store in Chippewa Falls. They currently operate eight grocery stores and four gas stations, employing more than 800 people throughout west central Wisconsin. Recently, the company won the Small Business of the Year Award from the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce.
