Eau Claire County (WQOW) - Work is underway to lower a dangerous hill near Eau Claire.
Three teens were killed while hill-jumping on Walnut Road in December 2011. Even before the crash occurred the Town of Washington had plans to re-do the road.
The one mile stretch where the crash happened is being lowered by about 10 feet. A dip in the road is being raised three feet and steep grades at the top of two intersections are being flattened out. Pavement is expected to be put down in about three weeks.
The town administrator says there will still be hills on the road, just as there are across western Wisconsin. She says the message continues to be that traveling at high speed for the purpose of hill jumping on any road can be deadly.
