Menomonie (WQOW) - An area school damaged by fire is
busy with repairs as the school year approaches.
Menomonie High School was damaged back in April after a
fire broke out in its agriculture room. Fire officials believe a heating lamp
caused bedding in an animal cage to start on fire. It caused $400,000 worth of
damage. Over the last couple of months, workers have been busy making necessary
repairs.
"There's quite a
bit still going on, in terms of teachers moving equipment into the room, last
minute painting, a few windows, a few door handles. They're on schedule to be
done this week with all the major components. School starts September 4th, so
we're excited to get started," said Menomonie High School Principal David
Munoz
The school paid a $1,000 deductible,
the rest of the damage was covered by insurance. More than a dozen animals died
in the fire. The assistant principal says the school will replace some of those
animals.
