Eau Claire (WQOW) - Financial help is now available to some area landowners who lost small trees due to this year's drought.
DNR foresters say the drought has killed 15 percent to 100 percent of tree seedlings around the state. Grants are being offered to forest landowners who lost 25 percent or more of their trees.
They must have been planted over the last five years and Christmas trees and yard trees are not covered. Applicants must own at least 10 acres of land, but less than 500 acres. The funds will cover up to half of the cost of preparing the site and replanting trees.
The grants are available in 49 counties, including Chippewa, Eau Claire, Dunn, Buffalo, Clark, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, St. Croix and Trempealeau.
