Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The season is right around the corner for the UWEC women's volleyball team.
The Blugolds began practice on Saturday, August 18. UW-Eau Claire is picked to finish third in the WIAC this season. Last year, the Blugolds tied for first place with a 7-1 conference record.
UWEC head coach Kim Wudi says she is impressed with the progress her team is made in a very short time.
"Well we're actually only five days in, and already I feel like we're ahead of where I would have expected us to be," Wudi says, "I think we have a great group of returners who saw a lot of playing time last year, and so they are really helping to mentor the young ones along. I'm impressed with how our young players are coming in. I think volleyball in general players are coming out of high school with a lot more talent and skill."
The Blugolds will have a home scrimmage on Saturday, August 25, with Winona State and UW-Stevens Point. The regular season starts on Friday, August 31, with the UWEC Labor Day Invitational.
