Burnett County (WQOW) - The shakeup inside a sheriff's department continues. Two more employees have been suspended. That makes seven who've been disciplined (from a staff of 39) and that may not be the end of it.
On Wednesday, the Burnett County Public Safety Committee upheld Sheriff Dean Roland's decision to suspend a patrol deputy and a sergeant.
An internal investigation was launched in April. At the heart of it were the actions of employees when an off-duty member of the department was allegedly involved in two domestic incidents. Two jailers have already been fired. The sheriff said he cannot provide more information about the case at this time, but did say that a patrol deputy and sergeant have now been suspended with pay pending termination. They will go through the grievance process which could take six months to a year to wrap up.
Sheriff Roland says three other employees have received lesser discipline and more could be disciplined for what he called "unreported actions." The sheriff says the DCI has its own investigation. Once their case and the internal investigation are finished, both will be sent to a special prosecutor to determine whether criminal charges are filed.
