Local GOP delegate serving on key committee ahead of convention

Tampa, FL (WQOW) - The race for the White House will be taken up a notch next week in Tampa and a local woman is already there getting ready.

The Republican National Convention begins on Monday.  This week, GOP leaders have been holding meetings in Tampa to set the stage for this event and many more going forward.  Maripat Krueger is there.  The Menomonie woman is one of two people from the state who's serving on the Convention Rules Committee.  That group examines the rules that govern the convention.  One example is the process of selecting the presidential nominees.

Krueger is also one of three delegates representing the 3rd Congressional District.  One of their official acts at the convention will be to nominate Governor Romney as their candidate for president.  Krueger says a lot of people want to talk to her when they find out she's from Wisconsin and that's been the case for several months.  "I had a partial corneal transplant in Indianapolis in June and it was so funny because I'm laying there ready to go into the operation room and I have nurses and other people coming up to me saying, 'You're from Wisconsin.  Oh, we just love your governor,' which is good because I wasn't nervous about my surgery," said Krueger.

Many people are nervous about Tropical Storm Isaac and the impact it could have on the convention.  Krueger said the people from Tampa aren't worried about it yet, so she's not.

The convention runs through Thursday.  The list of Wisconsin speakers continues to grow.  Congressman Sean Duffy's camp says he'll address the convention on Monday.  Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, will take the stage as well that day.  Governor Scott Walker will speak on Tuesday night and the vice presidential nominee, Congressman Paul Ryan will address the convention on Thursday.
