Haiti ready to evacuate due to Isaac, National Guard standing by in FL

Posted:

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Forecasters says they don't think they'll be slapping the hurricane tag on Tropical Storm Isaac today, and probably not until Monday, when the storm is out in the Gulf of Mexico.

Isaac has strengthened slightly as it spins toward arrival in the Dominican Republic and Haiti today.

Haiti's government has on standby buses and boats for evacuations.

Forecasters say it might be tracking slightly west of a possible U.S. hit on the Republican convention in Tampa, Fla.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott says the state's National Guard is ready to step in if some police officers can't make it to next week's Republican National Convention because of Tropical Storm Isaac.

More than 3,500 officers from around the state are expected to patrol the streets of Tampa, where Isaac is expected to arrive Tuesday.
