Fire-damaged school ready for class

Posted:

Siren (WQOW)- The finishing touches were done Friday at a school hit by a devastating fire earlier this year.

The completion of repairs at the Siren school is just in time for teachers, who will return to their classrooms next week. The school had heavy smoke and water damage after the fire in May.

On Friday workers finished the nearly three-month restoration process.  That included extensive cleaning and painting along with replacement of cabinets, carpet, floor tiles, and ceiling tiles. The Superintendent says the cost of repairs is now approaching two million dollars.

Work is expected to begin in October to rebuild the gym that was destroyed.  In the meantime, nearby school districts have offered their facilities to allow Siren student athletes to practice.
