Altoona, WI (Press Release from the Western Wisconsin Region of the Red Cross) — The Red Cross is now mobilizing disaster workers to Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Stephen Schleppegrell of Rice Lake deployed to Tampa, FL on Friday to join the many shelter workers already stationed there in preparation for Tropical Storm Isaac. Volunteers are now deploying to Montgomery, AL to assist with mobile feeding routes to provide snacks, meals, and water throughout affected communities once Tropical Storm Isaac hits. Earl Eckwright of Chippewa Falls, Bernard Behounek of Altoona, and Paul VanderHeiden of Eau Claire will all deploy as feeding workers. Jack Corey of Eau Claire will travel to Baton Rouge, LA and serve with the external relations team to coordinate services with local, state, and federal partners, for the benefit of disaster victims.
Currently, in response to Tropical Storm Isaac, the Western Wisconsin Region of the Red Cross has deployed 30 volunteers and 1 staff member.
