$15 million drug bust in Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest

Oconto County (WQOW)- A major marijuana grow in northeastern Wisconsin leads several arrests. It's being called a $15 million dollar drug bust.

Law enforcement says a fisherman tipped them off earlier this year about a large growing operation in Oconto County. Investigators say they seized 15 thousand plants that were growing.

The bust is the third in as many summers in the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest.  The suspects were arrested over the weekend.  Investigators are still trying to determine how long the marijuana was growing in that area.

About five years ago a tornado went through that area, knocking down trees and clearing a portion of the land.  That's one reason why investigators believe it became an attractive spot for marijuana growers.
