Barron County (Press Release) - On Wed 8-29-12 at 10:37 a.m. the Barron County Sheriff's Department received a call of a head on crash on Highway W near the museum just west of Cameron.
Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department, the Cameron Fire Department, WI State Patrol, Lakeview Medical Center, Cameron Police Dept and Life Link Helicopter were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival it was discovered that a car driven by Lisa Weigand, 43, of Barron had crossed the center line and struck a semi that was being towed by a tow truck driven by Sever Rundhaug, 66, of Chetek.
Weigand was trapped in her vehicle and extricated by Cameron Fire and flown to Regions Hospital with severe injuries. Rundhaug was not injured.
Approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled during this crash and the WI DNR and Greg's Excavating from Almena were called in to clean it up. Highway W was closed for several hours by the Barron County Highway Department.
This accident and cause of it are still under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff's Department.
