Capitol City Sunday preview

MADISON (WKOW) -- In the modern age of social media, reaction to and dialogue about this year's political conventions come almost instantly. That's one of our topics in this week's Capitol City Sunday.

"Twitter is really a live medium," said Madison College Lead Marketing Professor and social media expert Steve Noll. "People go to twitter for what's happening at the moment."

Noll spoke with us about at length about the impact of Twitter on the rapid spread of news.
We also discussed the benefits and disadvantages of the medium.

"Social media has done some great things," he said. "It's also caused some real big issues. The smart campaigns, the people that are doing it right are using the stuff to get out their message as quick as possible, but then also being able to deal with the mis-information that goes out there."

This Capitol City Sunday we also look back at Capitol Bureau Chief Greg Neumann's convention coverage on Channel 27 through the past week, from Tampa. That includes a look at Wisconsin's rising prominence in the national ranks of the G-O-P and reaction toward a newcomer to the political spotlight, Janna Ryan.

"Our families. Our Children. Our future. That's what this race is all about," Janna Ryan told a group of delegates at a luncheon in Tampa this week.

"Jane is new to this scene, so I think she's breaking in slowly to it," said Cathy Waller, a GOP delegate at the convention from Wisconsin. "But she'll warm up to it. she's just a lovely lady."

More on Janna Ryan, Greg's conversation with behind-the-scenes power player Grover Norquist and our complete interview with Steve Noll about social media at the conventions in this week's Capitol City Sunday. It starts at nine Sunday morning, right here on Channel 27 WKOW.
