Pleasant Valley (WQOW) - Area fire crews spent the afternoon battling flames from a grass fire. The fire was called in around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon in the town of Pleasant Valley. About 10-15 acres were burned. The fire was back in a heavily wooded area, which made it difficult for firefighters to fight.
"We've had ATV's with brush units on them. They've been back in there accessing the fire we can't get at. We've stretched a lot of hose line, forestry hose to get back at it. Right now we don't have a cause of ignition; we'll be looking into that here shortly," said Darrell Christy, Township Fire Department Chief of Operations.
Conditions are extremely dry outside, and firefighters are telling everyone to be cautious. The current fire danger is listed as "very high" for most of the state, including all of the Chippewa Valley. Burning is not allowed. Burning in barrels, debris piles and grass or wooded areas with permits is prohibited. Campfires are permitted but strongly discouraged.
