10 years since tornado ripped through Ladysmith

Posted:

Ladysmith (WQOW) - It has been a decade since an F-3 tornado ripped through the heart of Ladysmith, causing nearly $21 million in damage.

40 people were injured, and 40 buildings were completely leveled during that Labor Day tornado back in 2002. Just a few minutes later, another tornado struck the high school in Gilman, where the football team was practicing inside. The National Weather Service determined the two tornadoes packed winds of 150 miles an hour and lasted for more than a half an hour on the ground.
