Lake Hallie (Press Release) - Lake Hallie Police Chief
Cal Smokowicz reports that it is the "average" for the Village of Lake Hallie
Police to arrest 4 intoxicated drivers in one month, but it is uncommon for
that to occur in one weekend. This Labor
weekend however that is exactly what occurred.
On Saturday 09/01/2012, Officer Michael Hudson, of the Lake
Hallie Police Department was dispatched to the Burger King located on 120th
Street for an accident with no injury.
The complainant reported that his vehicle was legal parked in the lot
when a truck driving through struck his rear bumper. The complainant called police and stopped the
driver as he attempted to go through the "drive thru". The suspect driver failed the Field Sobriety
tests and was arrested for 1st offense Operating while Intoxicated and Operate
a Motor Vehicle without Insurance. A blood test was conducted on William T.
Doeringsfeld, (age 57) of Eau Claire.
On Saturday 09/01/2012 at 11:18 p.m. Officer Daniel Sokup of
the Lake Hallie Police Department was dispatched to a disturbance call that
occurred on 138th St. in Lake Hallie. The officer stopped a vehicle reported to have
been involved in that disturbance call on STH-124. The driver was discovered to
have three prior Operating while Intoxicated convictions and a revoked Driver's
License. In addition, the driver was required to have an Ignition Interlock
device installed in his vehicle which had not been done. The officer suspected
that the driver had a blood alcohol level over the restricted amount of
.02. Louis L. Puzio, (age 40) of Lake
Hallie was arrested and transported to the hospital where he submitted to an
evidentiary chemical test of his blood. Once at the jail he was issued a
citation for operating after revocation 1st offense and was charged
with domestic disorderly conduct. He was
also charged with failure to install ignition interlock device, operating with
prohibited alcohol concentration 4th offense and he was also placed
on a probation hold.
On Monday 09/03/12 at 5:46 p.m., Officer Samuel Eaton of the
Lake Hallie Police Department, was dispatched to a possible intoxicated driver
traveling north on STH 53 from the Eau Claire County line. Dispatch advised the vehicle had allegedly
gone through a highway crossover/turnaround. The Officer located the vehicle
and made contact. The driver failed Field Sobriety tests and was arrested.
Kelly R Bonzelet, (age 47) of St. Cloud, MN, was arrested and transported to
jail. The driver refused to take a chemical test and was charged with 1st
offense Operating While Intoxicated.
On Sunday 09/02/12 at approximately 12:40 a.m. Corporal
David Prokopinski was on Bus. Hwy 53 at 27th Ave. when he observed a
vehicle traveling at a speed 10 miles under the 50mph zone and straddling both
lanes of traffic at one point. The
driver failed Field Sobriety tests and was arrested. A blood test was
conducted. The driver Steven J. Kolpien,(age 25)of Chippewa Falls was arrested
for Operate Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence 3rd and 3rd
offense Operating While Revoked.
