Eau Claire (WQOW)- The state superintendent was in Eau Claire on Friday for the Wisconsin Teacher of the Year award ceremony.
During the visit WQOW News 18 asked Wisconsin Superintendent Tony Evers about education reforms the state is working on.
Evers says Wisconsin continues to look for ways to improve education in the state. Some of those include new ways to evaluate teachers, and common core state standards, which are academic standards that specify what students should know and be able to do at a certain grade level.
"The biggest of all is common core state standards. We've adopted these standards that are in mathematics and english language arts. They're really critical to our success as a state, they're internationally bench marked they raise expectations for students and everyone else and so in changing those standards really kind of flow into all the other reform efforts," says Evers.
Evers says the state hopes to put these and other reforms in place by 2017.
