3 children dead in Argyle house fire

ARGYLE (WQOW) -- Investigators are looking into what caused a fire that killed three children in the Town of Argyle Friday morning.

A family of five was home when a fire broke out after 3 a.m. in Lafayette County.

The mother, father and their two-year-old daughter made it out alive, but the father tells us his three sons did not.

Armin and his wife Sharon Wand live at the home on the 400 block of Oak Street where the fire started.

Authorities didn't say just how much damage the fire caused, but even from far, you can see the front of the home is charred.

Police blocked off the street, so even Armin's father says he didn't see what was left of the house.

But his son told him what happened when he lost his 3, 5 and 7 year old boys in the fire.

"He did tell me he tried to go in through the window to get the two oldest out and one was crying and that's the last he heard. He couldn't get in there fast enough," says Armin Wand, Jr., the victims' grandfather.

One neighbor says she heard that something was wrong even before fire trucks got to the scene.

"I heard yelling, and I thought there was a fight," says Melissa Cuevas. "When I came out to look,  I could see flames behind the house."

Several agencies including argyle-adams fire, argyle police and blanchardville fire responded.

Argyle police, Lafayette County Sheriff's department and Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation are now leading the investigation into what caused the fire.

They were at the home all day but haven't released information on what may have started it.

Armin's father says Armin plans to stay with him for the night.

UW Hospital says Sharon is in critical condition.
