Menomonie (WQOW) - This time of year, Friday nights are all about high school football, but what happened in Menomonie meant so much more than that.
Before Menomonie's game with Eau Claire Memorial on Friday night, there was a very special tribute to a wounded soldier. A video was played and on it, you could hear the voice of Army 2nd Lt. Jason Church. Church graduated from Menomonie high school in 2007. He was an all-state football player there. Last month, he lost both legs below the knee when a roadside bomb exploded in Afghanistan. Right now, he's being treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
"Jason's part of the football family here and we appreciate him and appreciate what he's done for our country as well as the community and school. We have a number 60 which is Jason's old number. We have a camouflage 60 that we are going to all place on the back of our football helmets tonight," said Menomonie Activities Director Bart Boettcher.
There was also a booth at the game where money was raised for the family. Jason's father says they hope he'll be able to come home in a few months.
