Service members honored at Field of Honor memorial

Eau Claire (WQOW) - American flags were on display today near the CVTC campus as part of a memorial honoring past and present troops.

Today marked the opening ceremony of the field of honor flag memorial. 1,500 American flags flew along with Wisconsin state flags set up to honor of those who have died since the attacks on September 11th. It is a weeks worth of event aimed at showing support and honoring military veterans.

"In order to keep our peace, we've got to serve. That's why these flags are important. Lets the people know how to respect our veterans and what they did. And our present veterans and all our soldiers who are serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, all over the world," said Vietnam War veteran Rory Schutte.

The event continues tomorrow with Youth Day, and runs throughout the 16th.
