Sunken boat found 6 months after disappearing with UWEC grad on board

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW)- It's a mystery that's remained underwater until now. The Coast Guard has found a fishing boat that disappeared in March with four men on board including a UW-Eau Claire graduate.

The Lady Cecilia was discovered Sunday in nearly 500 feet of water off the Washington coast. Underwater video of the vessel will be studied for clues. The Coast Guard hopes to learn what made the boat go down so fast that the crew was unable to escape or even send a distress signal.

The lost crew included 25-year-old Chris Langel, a 2009 graduate of UWEC. He was on board to monitor the size and type of fish the boat was bringing in. He had just begun working for a new employer and was on his first trip with the company when the boat sank.
