Red Arrow Brigade receives notice of deployment

Posted:

MARSHFIELD (WKOW) -- About 3,400 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers have been notified they could be deployed next summer.

The soldiers are part of the Red Arrow Brigade, the largest unit in the Wisconsin National Guard. The 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, nicknamed Red Arrow, has units in 32 Wisconsin communities.

According to Wisconsin National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Jackie Guthrie, the notice gives the unit access to federal funding for additional training. She say it is not an official deployment order.

Guthrie tells the Marshfield News-Herald the unit has been notified about a year in advance of the possible deployment to allow soldiers, their families and their employers to make plans.

Meanwhile, approximately 35 Wisconsin National Guard members return to Wisconsin from a tour of Duty in Afghanistan on Tuesday. They will arrive at about 5:30 p.m. to VFW Post 8834 in Hartford.
