Minn. woman sentenced for role in son's death

Posted:

Pierce County (WQOW) - A woman is sentenced Thursday for the death of her son in western Wisconsin.

Melissa Ohmann's 17-month son died in 2009.  Her husband is serving a life sentence for shaking the toddler at the family's home in Minnesota. He suffered a brain injury and broken bones.

But the couple did not seek help for the boy until four days later when they were visiting relatives in Pierce County.  He was taken to the hospital in Durand, where he died.  Ohmann was convicted of failing to get immediate medical care for the boy, which prosecutors said would likely have saved his life. Ohmann was sentenced today to a year in jail.  She will also be on probation for ten years.
