Clark County (WQOW)- A Clark County man who had not been seen for two days has been found safe and sound.
WQOW was there when search crews brought the man out of the woods Friday. Authorities say when they first heard that Bradley Pohlmeyer had been missing for three days, they thought this might be a recovery mission. So those who took part in Friday's search were ecstatic when they found out he was going to be alright.
Family members told authorities that Pohlmeyer left home Wednesday afternoon to go looking for a good place to hunt squirrels. They didn't report him missing until Friday because Bradley keeps to himself. He lives with his sister and brother-in-law, but in a different part of their home.
"They went to talk to him and he wasn't there and figured out it was unusual for him to be gone this long so they decided to call in and ask for assistance," explains Clark County Deputy Chief Jim Backus.
Finding your way in the woods is no easy task to begin with.
"Hearing from some of the responders that came back in, they said it's very, very thick in there," Backus reveals.
Authorities also say Bradley suffered a brain injury many years ago that limited his sense of direction.
Clark County says about 25 people started searching for Bradley early Friday morning when they found out he was missing. Those people were divided into small groups and it was one of those small groups that ended up finding him."
"I hollered Bradley and I heard somebody say yep. And then I stayed right there and I hollered his name again and he said the same thing," smiles Greenwood Firefighters Arnie Kappus. "And by that time, the other guys that were with me, I radioed them and told them that I think I've got somebody answering me. Then we come back and then we went in and found him sitting against a tree. He wasn't really rattled or anything. He was just dehydrated; a little bit shook up. He'd been out there for three days. Otherwise he did real good."
"When we initially get the call that he's been gone since Wednesday afternoon, we are thinking unfortunately, this may be more of a recovery than a rescue and to hear the voice, to find him alive and talking to us, great, absolutely wonderful ending to this story," beams Backus.
When the search party found Bradley, they gave him two things: water and chocolate. A helicopter and dogs both helped in the search, along with police and fire departments from the surrounding area.
