Eau Claire County (WQOW) - A Durand
man accused of using Facebook to plot a crime is sentenced.
Tristan Montroy
was convicted yesterday of burglarizing an Eleva-area garage. Detectives say he knew the owners weren't
home, because he was friends with the owner's son and saw a Facebook posting
that indicated they were on vacation.
Montroy allegedly crawled through a dog-door to get into the garage and
steal a GPS unit and some helmets. Investigators say a pawn shop gave him $65
for the items, which were valued at $600.
He was caught because pawn shops are required to get photo id's of
people who pawn items. A judge in Eau Claire
sentenced Montroy Thursday to 15-days of community service.
